word of the day: stare decisis

STARE DECISIS - Lat. "to stand by that which is decided." The principle that the precedent decisions are to be followed by the courts.

Edited to add that those of us in the know call this principle "Starry D."

I like "Starry D." The question for the day is, though, does he actually mean it when he says it? Or, more to the point, does anyone on either the left or the right believe him?
